The main objective of the New York Photo Workshop is to take men and women who have little or no experience in the field of photography and to mold them into professional photographers with management skills and a general business background.
The workshop does not teach avocational or recreational photography. We accept into our classes only the most serious minded individuals who have as their goal the profession of photography. In addition to teaching the mechanical segments of photography, we also strive for self confidence and self expression in making a photographer a tool of creation.
This is a practical workshop where we train future photographers by actual work and experience. We are not interested in training photographic chemists, analysts,, or training the individual in the construction of photographic equipment. Rather, we train individuals from our experience for the photographic positions that are always available in studios specializing in portrait, commercial, industrial, fashion, photo-graphic departments across the nation. The instructors are all practicing professional photographers.
The workshop’s success has come from a respect for a person’s basic abilities, an insistence upon imagination, and a recognition of the photographer’s place in a visual society. There is also a feeling of doing things right. The standards are exacting and the pace is rapid.
The workshop is constantly education, changing, reexamining, and improving its outlook, curriculum, faculty and direction. If this attitude wasn’t prevalent, the workshop would have failed many years ago when it was founded.
The aim of the workshop is to train both men and women in the practice of professional photography and in the art of developing a photographic mind and eye. It is also the aim of the workshop to prepare students for responsible positions within the photographic industry of today, an industry that is expanding at an incredible rate.
With moderate equipment, excellent facilities, and highly competent instructors, the workshop has been accomplishing its aims. The student leaves the workshop as a competent photographer ready for productive work and continuous growth.
