Vice President, Business Development
Reporting directly to the CEO, and as a member of the senior management team, the Vice President, Business Development will provide strategic direction for business development and marketing functions of the company. This will include:
§ Ongoing management and organizational responsibilities for the regional and strategic account sales force;
§ Developing sales and marketing collateral;
§ Driving sales performance and growth through strategic account development particularly with a focus on large pharma partners;
§ Directing the company’s sales efforts in line with strategic plans; developing creative, sustainable long term business; optimizing the existing sales processes;
§ Developing coherent and attractive sales messages primarily centered around drug product development, clinical packaging and distribution and contract manufacturing services to the pharma and biotech industries;
§ Growing regional territories where growth has been slow; and to ensure adequate prospecting exercises are carried out involving the various regional BD professionals;
The position will be US based, preferably East Coast or Midwest location and will initially have up to twelve direct reports. In addition to direct management responsibility, the position will require achievement of personal sales targets making the position a “working manager”. Along these lines, it is expected that the VP, Business Development will participate in sales calls particularly with larger pharma customers. Additionally as the voice of the company to customers, the VP will need to be articulate and understand the contract services market from the start.
Qualifications include BS degree (MBA highly preferred) and 15+ years industry experience that includes 5+ years management experience. Experience in a previous general or senior management role in a similar contract services business is a plus. Experience in business development in a contract services business with specific focus on pharmaceutical contract manufacturing is strongly preferred. Position requires excellent presentation and sales skills; exceptional organizational skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal and leadership skills; proven ability to grow sales/accounts on a national level and possess the ability to conceptualize problems and provide customer centric solutions. Compensation will be a mix of base and variable based on achievement of personal sales target. Travel will be 50+%.
