Position Summary:
ACCO Brands Corporation, one of the world’s largest suppliers of branded office products, with annual revenues of nearly $2 billion, is seeking a Consumer Insight Marketing Research Manager to generate consumer insights that create a competitive advantage by informing the portfolio planning and new product development processes. The position will be responsible for working with the business teams to identify market research opportunities to support the company’s plans, especially as they relate to product planning.
Responsibilities Include:
* Build ACCO Brands’ Consumer Insights capability – responsible for aggregating existing and generating new customer insights across the organization and ensuring their synthesis into the product planning and development processes
* Understand who our consumer is – who is buying our products, how, and why? Communicate these learnings throughout the organization
* Work with Future Product Management (FPM) team and the global Product Generation Organization (PGO) management team to identify market research opportunities for all of ACCO’s product categories (also to include new product/market exploration)
* Manage qualitative and quantitative market research processes for all product categories, working in concert with the FPMs and managing outside vendors where appropriate/necessary. Will also include managing ‘guerrilla research’ methods, helping identify and pursuing creative and innovative data-gathering methods.
* Distill the findings from the market research efforts into salient takeaways and communicate these consumer insights throughout the organization, helping create consensus and momentum to target the identified opportunities
* Help the FPMs ensure that the consumer’s perspective and preferences are understood by product engineering and that they are incorporated into product design
* Regularly monitor secondary/syndicated information sources and competitive and industry landscapes, communicating relevant information in the form of ‘insights’ to key stakeholders
* Throughout all activities, understand the full consumer experience and be the ‘Voice of the Customer” throughout the organization and ensure it is heard in all decision-making processes that impact the consumer – help create and sustain a consumer-centric culture
* Participate/contribute to innovation activities throughout the company where appropriate
Position Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of market research experience, with at least 3 years of that focused on generating consumer insights. Must have or be:
* Strong research capabilities, with direct experience managing multiple qualitative and quantitative research initiatives using various research methods
* Ability to frame upfront business problems and translate those issues into research plans and ultimately into actionable insights
* Expert ability to work with large amounts of complex data, focusing on ‘priority areas’, and turn it into ‘actionable’ insights
* Demonstrated ability to take research initiatives from concept definition to actionable results
* Good team player - will need to be able to work effectively with all levels of the organization
* Strong influencing skills – will need to be able to influence project managers and process participants who don’t report directly to this position
* Outstanding communication skills – will need to be an effective ‘storyteller’, successfully influencing others
* Creative and innovative in using new methods and processes to generate consumer insights, new product ideas and identify market opportunities
* Proven experience with vendor management (research suppliers, ideation firms, etc.)
* Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field, including Marketing/Market Research, New Product Development, Design, or Social Sciences is desired. Masters Degree is a plus.
