Applications may be for aerodynamics, loads or noise applications. Responsibilities may include: 1) developing discretization approaches for the Navier-Stokes equations, including higher order schemes and turbulence model development; 2) developing reliable approaches for gridding, applicable for flows over complex geometries, including solution adaptive techniques; 3) developing approaches for aerodynamic design using higher order CFD analyses; and 4) developing unique predictive capabilities for aerodynamic flowsCompetencies General[ + ] CollaborationGenerally works effectively and cooperatively with work group members, direct supervisor, and occasionally members of others work groups; establishes and maintains good working relationships by helping people feel valued, appreciated, and included in discussions. Places higher priority on team and/or organization goals than on own goals. Normally offers to help work group members, direct supervisor, and occasionally members of others work groups when they need assistance.[ + ] Continuous ImprovementReviews a variety of processes to identify gaps between requirements and current outputs within own and occasionally within other work groups. Identifies potential conditions that contribute to gaps or key variances; explores relationships between conditions and effects; distinguishes causes from symptoms and identifies primary causes. Generates ideas for solutions; analyzes the effect or impact of each solution; selects appropriate solutions. Tests solutions; gathers feedback on effectiveness; reviews impact on baseline measures; modifies solutions as appropriate to ensure effectiveness.[ + ] Continuous LearningUsually seeks and uses feedback from own work group members, direct supervisor, and occasionally members of others work groups and other sources of information to identify appropriate areas for learning. Generally identifies and participates in appropriate learning activities (e.g., courses, reading, self-study, coaching, experiential learning) that help fulfill learning needs. Participates in learning activities in a way that makes the most of the learning experience (e.g., takes notes, asks questions, critically analyzes information, keeps on-the-job application in mind, does required tasks). Puts new knowledge, understanding, or skill to practical use on the job; furthers learning through trial and error. Occasionally places self in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations in order to ask questions and learn.[ + ] InnovationGenerally identifies assumptions in the way problems or situations of moderate scope and complexity are defined or presented. Sees alternative ways to view or define problems; is not constrained by the thoughts or approaches of work group members or inter-organizational employees. Generally draws upon multiple and diverse sources (individuals, disciplines, bodies of knowledge) for ideas and inspiration. Combines ideas in unique ways or makes connections between disparate ideas; explores different lines of thought. Views situations from multiple perspectives; brainstorms multiple approaches/solutions. Examines some potential solutions and evaluates each before accepting any; targets important areas for innovation and develops solutions that address meaningful issues in own and other work areas.Technical[ + ] Aerodynamic Technology DevLimited knowledge and interest in developing aerodynamic or aerothermodynamic technologies, tools, and processes for improving vehicle performance, capability and safety, design and development cycle times, and state of the art or technology readiness level.[ + ] Computational Fluid DynamicGeneral knowledge of the CFD tools and process in aerodynamic or aerothermodynamic design, able to identify and adapt the tools for specific applications.Basic Qualifications For Consideration Do you meet the criteria described in the Typical Education / Experience section of this requisition?Typical Education/Experience Degree and typical experience in engineering classification: Bachelor\'s and 2 or more years\' experience or a Master\'s degree with experience.
